Tima probably has written songs about anything that you can think of. Colour that suits you, online shopping, bad dates, election? She's done all of them. And they all slap real hard, too.
Eversince she started playing the piano at 5 years old, she never stopped. Her wisdom behind the keys is impeccable and combined with her strong stroytelling skills and cool humour, she stands out as one of the most unique music acts around.
More than a producer, multi instrumentalist and a true fun personality. Guess it's time to take Tima seriously.
N-F : Tell us a little bit about your relationship with the piano. And what other instruments do you play?
Tima : Piano was the first instrument I have ever learned. It was my gateway into my love for music and I will always be grateful for that. Through the years of playing piano I've also picked up guitar and bass.
N-F : When did you know that music was truly your element? (pivotal moment )
Tima : I knew music was my element when I was between 12-13. That's when I discovered that I could play music that wasn't just classical. I learned that I can express myself through music and not just play what was in front of me. That moment is when I wanted to create for the rest of my life.
N-F :Share with us about your band. What is the band called, how did you guys start, and what have you guys been up to
Tima : I had a wonderful time with my band Switch Mob. With my band we have been able to mesh rnb, pop, and jazz. Though we are currently on a hiatus, I am super grateful for the experiences and memories I've created with Switch Mob.
N-F: So, after vibing with The Internet, did you linked up with them again? to write songs together maybe?
Tima : Playing with The Internet was amazing. We haven't been able to meet up and write.....yet. However I'm speaking it into existence.
N-F :What was the inspiration behind 'THE TIMA TAPE''?
Tima : I was inspired to make THE TIMA TAPE after I realized there was a community of people who like me love short and sweet stories.
N-F :Did you have to halt any of your music projects (tour/recording) because of the pandemic outbreak and how are you finding the solution for that.
Tima: When COVID hit, it forced my band to slow down with touring. However it was a blessing because we are able to explore our creativity from home.
N-F : You touch on all kinds of subject matter on your social media, do you feel that musicians should incorporate current issues in their music?
Tima : I feel like artists should tell their stories. Music comes from experience and we all have different experiences to relate to.
N-F : Are there any good albums or artists that you'd like to recommend?
Tima :I'm definitely into Ari Lennox right now
N-F: What do you have to say to those who are interested in starting music
Tima : To anyone starting music: Do it and keep going. Whatever it is. You will mess up. You will misstep but don't stop because there is a space for you, even if you need to create it yourself.
