Midnight Runners

Are we elated we get to talk to Midnight Runners? Why is that even a question? Sure we are! From 'Overdrive', to 'Odyssey', Tropic Disco to 'Fantasy Touch' and 'Openlabs', Midnight Runners releases have been playing on our stereo religiously.

We've waited so long to have the opportunity to sit with these far-out funky multiform musicians and the interview is finally here. Here's Hary Munir Septiandy (one half of Midnight Runners) spilling the beans on how they fashioned on their production.

N-F: I's amazing how you guys keep it low-key despite the large following,and in fact, not many of us know the history of Midnight Runners, so can you trace us back on how it started?

H: Around 2012, I started to make hip-hop beats by doing sampling for fun and wanted to learn bit of music. Then i went into making my own modern funk/disco music. Midnight Runners now is more or less like a band.

N-F: That's a pretty nice transition. So, what was it that inspired the band to sound the way it is now. What would be the genesis of your music?

H: It's all 70's and 80's disco/funk music era with little bit soft-rock touch but overall I'm just born to boogie.

N-F: Hahaha. Born to boogie, that's a good one. So, let’s imagine if we were to walk into the studio while you guys are working. What can we expect? Process wise. And what are your weapons (equipment).

H: Started writing arrangement, first with the chords and bass/synth came up second and then with accoustic drum or machine drum. Finally, edit with Digital Audio Workstation which is make more easily and bounce multitracks to homemade pre-amp and mixers hardware.

N-F: How do you guys decide which songs fit into an album.

H: If i do put a song on soundcloud page, and it gets great response, it will go into our release.

N-F: To date, you have plenty of releases on wax, some are from different labels. Are you guys thinking about touring?

H: We'd like to, but we dont have any offer came across to us to perform or play at gigs even regionally we are really behind curtain on music scene here.
