A formula that is just right for those who have been yearning for instumentals that are cosmic, romantic as well as eclectic. Karl Nordin is definitely an original and he is making Stockholm proud.
N-F: Your name pops up whenever people talk about a particular movement (perhaps the future/modern funk movement), particularly in Europe. Tell us a little bit about your history.
K-N: I have been mentioned when people are talking about modern funk, I feel like I have a closer tie to that thing, especially by having released most of my stuff on omega supreme records who has a bunch of great folks on the roster. I don’t sample anything except for some percussion, hi-hats or other drum sounds, the rest I play myself. My history, I started out making straight up hip-hop beats, digging for records with breaks to sample. And I grew up on Parliament/Funkadelic, Prince, etc. So somewhere along the way I found a drum break on a Lincoln Mayorga record and made a funky disco tune and carried on from there.
N-F: Cant help but to be intrigued by your polished bass lines. Has it always been your style?
K-N: I guess so! The bass line from “you’re in my system”, tracks like that, have always been a big inspiration.
N-F: What’s the feel behind most of your tracks, what do you think about when you produce them? I can tell that it is very spacey, relaxed and sexy. Is that how you wish it to be reflected?
K-N: Spacey, relaxed and sexy are some good words to describe it. But also not that, like, if SASAC was a band, the energy would not come from the sexy lead vocalist - if SASAC was Atlanta Rhythm Section, the energy would emanate from Paul Goddard the bass player.
N-F: Not only your music is distinct, the artwork for all your singles carries a certain character too. Who do you work with on that, and how do you visualise them?

K-N: I don’t have much to do with that, I make some suggestions to James (GWIZKI)
from Omega Supreme Records and then he gives that to Rebecca Coffman who does the artwork on all the labels releases.
N-F: Whats been on repeat on your playlist thesedays?
K-N: Not much on the funky side of things, lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Gene Clark, Paul Williams, Gigi Masin, anything that the Alchemist produced. I found a copy of Lonnie Liston Smith and the Cosmic Echoes “Renaissance” that I listen to a lot.
N-F: Are there any other acts that you would recommend to us (that is from Stockholm)?
K-N: Yes, check out:
S. Raw - http://soundcloud.com/sunraw
Sand Circles - http://soundcloud.com/sand-circles
Rikard “Skizz” Bizzi - http://soundcloud.com/sirsampalot

N-F: Plans on touring Asia?
K-N: I don’t really do live shows. I did my first one this summer, which was fun, but I can’t leave my family and responsibilities right now for that long a time. Maybe in a few years I will be able to tour!
N-F: Looking forward. Thanks for talking to us!
