Prior to the release of ‘Comet Come to Me', with the help of the universe, we were fortunate enough to be able to correspond with Meshell Ndegecello. She agreed for a short interview and we kept in touch. The incredible bass player, vocalist, producer and lyricist was humble enough to entertain me and my questions.
N-F : How do you stay consistent in your songwriting M.N : I write out on a need to explore so I try to say curious . I listen to music that's always exciting and keeps me wondering what's to be be found or experienced musically. N-F: What was the difficult part about coming up with 'Comet Come To Me' ?
M.N: Lyrics , I can feel and expand on music but lyrical concepts are a struggle , so little to say these days and there's something about the words.

N-F : Your lyrics have always impacted lives. So, what kind of music did you grow up listening to? M.N : I listened to all kinds of music and i also embrace many cultures and many styles.
N-F : That’s nice. You tour a lot too, meaning you travel to so many countries, so are there any weird rituals that you do before your live shows? M.N : We [as a band] are pretty simple. We would just listen to music and just sit with each other [before a show]. . N-F: If you were to have a dream band, and you can have band members from anywhere (dead or alive) who would you pick to be in your band? M.N :George Harrison , Paul Bowles , Deantoni Parks, Chris Bruce , Doyle Bramhall N-F: If you could rule the world for one day, and you can do anything you want to make a change, what would you do. M.N: In terms of cosmology I would hope for the ability to travel at the speed of light. If I ruled the world ? Oh my I would relinquish control immediately
N-F: We had a lovely time talking to you. It was a great session. Thank you so much for your time.
* We eventually met at Java Jazz and she proved to be such a beautiful soul. Meshell is currently working on the music for a James Baldwin special. Baldwin was a prominent author that wrote about social issues in America during the 50s-60s*
